Hannah Lee Jade: Yoga Cushion
Hannah Lee Jade explores the fringes of installation art, textile design, and sustainable fashion. Her works often allude to the importance of rethinking the way we consume and her designs repurporse what’s already there. We managed to track her down somewhere between the tip and her sewing studio and asked her a few questions.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the Waitākere Ranges, surrounded by big beautiful Kauri trees.
What inspired this artwork?
I was inspired by all the waste that textiles create. I wanted to make a cushion entirely out of re-purposed T-shirts including the inside stuffing. The design and the shape are inspired by a perfect yoga cushion and the shape is two minds thinking.
Also, you can also hug it. 👐
What’s your next step?
My next step is finishing off orders from my Revive collection for effe in Montreal and a few other shops online. I’m having a lot of fun taking apart discarded business/menswear and giving it new life through asbtract shapes. I’m also finishing up a photoshoot in a really interesting location that should go public soon!
Thanks for reviving our waste! Looking forward to the new collection!
