Luna Leo Lee: Even Light Wiggles
Luna Leo Lee (they/them) is a unique emerging artist, who represent their experience of neurodiversity with their art. Even Light Wiggles is a beautiful celebration of this experience.
“The name is a reference to the wiggling wavelengths that produce colours, as well as the ways in which I stim and wiggle to regulate my senses. It is an affirmation that there is beauty in the ways in which light and I both move. That there is joy to be found in those sensory experiences.”
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in San Jose, California, USA on Tamien Nation aboriginal territory. I spent my formative young adult years in Seattle, Washington, USA on unceded Duwamish lands.
What inspired this piece?
Even Light Wiggles. That’s what colour is, when it comes down to it. It’s simply light wiggling, wobbling, moving, and grooving. And when its wavelengths hit an object they bounce and voilà! Our eyes perceive colour. Even Light Wiggles, just like I do. Colour and I are one and the same, dancing our beauty out for the world to see.
What’s the next step for you?
Next on my horizon is a bit of rest and a moment to enjoy the work that I've done getting my site and my shop launched. After that I'll be exploring some block printing techniques on fabric to see what magic I can make! And I'm dreaming up some workshops to run when folks can safely gather once again.
Luna has generously submitted Even Light Wiggles to be exhibited at Manzana, where it currently hangs. Thanks for brightening up our collaborative space, Luna!
